ABOUT
Slapstick Saturday is an annual tribute to the grandmasters of comedy from the silent film era. Not only will laughter abound on this evening, but it also proves that comedy is a true art form. This year's main feature is one of Buster Keaton's most iconic films, THE CAMERAMAN (1928). A film that served as a model of perfect comedy writing for many years. It was the last film for which Keaton had (largely) retained creative control, adding a touch of tragedy to its place in cinematic history.
Before the intermission, we'll witness the first film released under Keaton's complete direction: ONE WEEK (1920), This film is not only a technical tour de force by Keaton himself but also showcases the acrobatic skills of his co-star, Sybil Seely, who matches him move for move; Mabel Normand in SHOULD MEN WALK HOME (1927) and a short film from the NASTY WOMEN COLLECTION.
The films will be live musically accompanied by Daan van den Hurk (piano), Meg Morley (piano), Bart Soeters (bass) and Frank van der Star (drums).
This year the Muziekgebouw Eindhoven is the venue location for the Slapstick Saturday.
